Just realized this… I shot the picture on the left when I was 7 in my apartment in Kyiv. I didn’t wind the film correctly, so it turned out to be an accidental double exposure.
The image on the right is a composite, which is part of my senior thesis. I was not conscious of the connection, until I found this print in an old box of contacts. View high resolution

Kids

I shot these portraits in the Summer of 2010, but have never published them on the blog with respect to the sensitivity of the subject, and the agreement between myself and Flashes of Hope. F.O.H. is a non-profit organization which is working to support children who are suffering from cancer. Among many things, they create free events for the kids to enjoy, and invite volunteer photographers to take portraits of the children for their families.

This was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. I was able to photograph for about one hour, on two separate occasions. In that time I had met and photographed 32 kids. These children had incredible, dynamic personalities. They were emotional, charismatic, courageous, intelligent, and absolutely beautiful. I was blown away by their energy and had the most difficult time leaving the place and later editing my contact sheets.
